HUGE THANKS to our Kickstarter supporters for helping to bring this album to life!
My name is Mitch Polzak and I am so thriled and excited to tell you about this upcoming musical project! I have been a professional musician for 20 years, leading my trio, Mitch Polzak & The Royal Deuces. I have recorded, self-produced, and independently released 6 albums over the course of my career thus far, and have had the privilege of performing my music here in the U.S. as well as Spain, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Ireland, and the Czech Republic!
Over the course of 200+ live shows a year, I have observed which songs are the crowd favorites and recorded those on my albums-- in a sense, the albums have been compilations of audience requests! This approach has been very successful so far, hence my ability to have funded and produced each of those albums myself.
Last year I had the great life fortune to meet, be inspired by, and collaborate with visionary choreographer and burlesque performer Mynx d’Meanor and her troupe, Fishnet Follies. I have always had a dream and great interest in composing music to score dance performances as well as film. Our collaboration allowed this dream to become reality with our first show, the world premiere of Risqué Riot! where I either wrote or arranged original material for each of the dancers. The feedback was AMAZING and our first show SOLD OUT! After the show there were so many inquiries from audience members on where they could purchase the music they just heard. At that moment I knew an album had to be made!
I have never written so many tunes so quickly in my life and I knew this kind of inspiration (Mynxperation) was a rare thing and wanted to put lightning in a bottle with this album. Another unique part of this musical process has been the opportunity to collaborate with Bay Area music legend and band mate Hank Maninger to further hone in the ideas for this album. This production and composition process is a new direction for me that requires the addition of auxiliary musicians and an approach to arranging and composition that I have always wanted to pursue and craft.
This began when I experimented with two ideas: creating a guitar-driven 3-piece band arrangement of the Ennio Morricone epic theme “For A Few Dollars More” (normally performed by huge orchestras with up to 100 musicians!), and composing an original piece of music specifically intended for use in a burlesque performance for and inspired by Mynx d’Meanor. The immensely enthusiastic reception of both of these tunes in my live shows and European tours was proof that it WORKED!!!
Now is the time to take this momentum and create a FULL album of the magic that exists in the music, and now it is now that I graciously and respectfully call on YOU to be the driving force that will truly kickstart this dream, endeavor, and collaboration! To present these compositions in the quality they deserve, we need an increased budget. Good work isn’t cheap and cheap work isn’t good. This requires first class audio, visual, and production to fully do justice to the energy and love that exists in this project!
Just as a big studio sets aside a budget specifically for a film’s score, this is where I ask YOU, our individual supporters, to collectively act as our 20th Century Fox, our Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, our Warner Brothers to make this happen! If we can do this, the music will remain 100% INDEPENDENT and be released in its true and original idea and form!
Our goal is to release this album at the Risqué Riot 2! show on November 15, 2019 in Oakland! My hope is that the release of this album will not only inspier listeners musically but will also bring awareness to the art of burlesque and vice versa, linking two demographics together with a common ground of music and dance.
The magic of our collaboration is intense and unique and brings the worlds of burlesque dance and live music together in a very special way that I believe in SO MUCH! My 20 years in this business has taught me that when the art is this real, inspired, and passionate, one must act on it and create.
Let’s make this happen!
BUDGET & GOALS
Having self produced 6 successful albums in the span of my 20 year career, I have become very familiar with the costs associated with delivering a consistent, quality piece of art that delivers to the listener the full scope and integrity of the original vision. Each category counts in the stages of production and it is important to realize the full process of realizing that vision. Those steps include:
Let’s shoot for the moon! If we’re able to raise funds beyond our initial goal, I will be able to…
$8,000 - Release the album on vinyl and collectible 8-track formats
$9,000 - Double the initial press run of CDs (2,000 units)
$12,000 - We’ll be able to advance the recording and manufacturing process of my other album project, “Long Hauls And Close Calls”. “Long Hauls And Close Calls” has been in planning stages for a year and will include the much awaited Truck Driving songs both classic and original that have become a staple of my live shows as well as exciting new original compositions and arrangements!
If we can exceed our initial financial goals this time out, we will allocate funds towards the investment in Risqué Riot's future, which will not only include future audio recordings but the ability to produce engaging music videos in the coming year!
RISKS & CHALLENGES
Any new endeavor comes with its share of risks and challenges, and I want to be as transparent with you about any possible delays so that we’re on the same page about what to expect.
Our goal is to produce the album to be launched by November 15, 2019. It will be ready in digital form, but the physical production of the CD may vary depending on the workload of the manufacturer. Think of it as waiting in line at the grocery store, in which our wait time depends on how many are in the queue ahead of us and how much they’re ordering. If we exceed our first goal of running 1,000 units, the next press run may involve further delay. For those outside of the San Francisco Bay Area, some rewards that need to be shipped may have a delay due to Mitch’s upcoming tour in Spain and Mynx’s responsibilities in producing the show. We’ll do our best to recruit extra help for this, but we can’t guarantee…
We will keep you up to date IF there is a delay and provide you with a due date. Even if you're in a long line at the grocery store, your beer will still be cold and the ice cream won't melt and the product will be delivered in an expedited manner!
We've got 30 days to raise $6,000 towards funding the making of the album. Will you support us?
Mitch Polzak is a professional musician and band leader of Mitch Polzak & The Royal Deuces for the last 20 years. He is known for his engaging, high energy shows, performing music he grew up listening to in genres that span rockabilly, honky tonk, bluegrass, Cajun, and truck driving music. His performances knock down any barriers between musician and audience-- with no set lists but instead organically play to the crowd’s vibe, and has been known to make up songs on the spot, inspired by an audience member’s story or weaving the details of the existing circumstances into the trajectory of the show. Mitch truly lives up the saying, "If you give me an inch, I'll take you a mile!" Music is about the journey the performer and the audience take together in real time and Mitch engages the audience to invites them on that adventure!
Mitch Polzak & The Royal Deuces is made up of a variety of experienced veteran musicians. His core players are Hank Maninger (bass) and Les James (drums). Mitch says, “The idea of a three piece band excites me, as every member has to pull their weight…” Playing over 200 gigs each year, so many performances that in addition to his core players, he also has back up players: Joe Kyle Jr., Ken Owen, Jimmy Touzel and Timothy Orr-- for the occasions that he needs them.
