Mitch Polzak is a professional musician and band leader of Mitch Polzak & The Royal Deuces for the last 20 years. He is known for his engaging, high energy shows, performing music he grew up listening to in genres that span rockabilly, honky tonk, bluegrass, Cajun, and truck driving music. His performances knock down any barriers between musician and audience-- with no set lists but instead organically play to the crowd’s vibe, and has been known to make up songs on the spot, inspired by an audience member’s story or weaving the details of the existing circumstances into the trajectory of the show. Mitch truly lives up the saying, "If you give me an inch, I'll take you a mile!" Music is about the journey the performer and the audience take together in real time and Mitch engages the audience to invites them on that adventure!
Mitch Polzak & The Royal Deuces is made up of a variety of experienced veteran musicians. His core players are Hank Maninger (bass) and Les James (drums). Mitch says, “The idea of a three piece band excites me, as every member has to pull their weight…” Playing over 200 gigs each year, so many performances that in addition to his core players, he also has back up players: Joe Kyle Jr., Ken Owen, Jimmy Touzel and Timothy Orr-- for the occasions that he needs them.
My name is Mitch Polzak and I am so thriled and excited to tell you about this upcoming musical project! I have been a professional musician for 20 years, leading my trio, Mitch Polzak & The Royal Deuces. I have recorded, self-produced, and independently released 6 albums over the course of my career thus far, and have had the privilege of performing my music here in the U.S. as well as Spain, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Ireland, and the Czech Republic!
Over the course of 200+ live shows a year, I have observed which songs are the crowd favorites and recorded those on my albums-- in a sense, the albums have been compilations of audience requests! This approach has been very successful so far, hence my ability to have funded and produced each of those albums myself.
Last year I had the great life fortune to meet, be inspired by, and collaborate with visionary choreographer and burlesque performer Mynx d’Meanor and her troupe, Fishnet Follies. I have always had a dream and great interest in composing music to score dance performances as well as film. Our collaboration allowed this dream to become reality with our first show, the world premiere of Risqué Riot! where I either wrote or arranged original material for each of the dancers. The feedback was AMAZING and our first show SOLD OUT! After the show there were so many inquiries from audience members on where they could purchase the music they just heard. At that moment I knew an album had to be made!
I have never written so many tunes so quickly in my life and I knew this kind of inspiration (Mynxperation) was a rare thing and wanted to put lightning in a bottle with this album. Another unique part of this musical process has been the opportunity to collaborate with Bay Area music legend and band mate Hank Maninger to further hone in the ideas for this album. This production and composition process is a new direction for me that requires the addition of auxiliary musicians and an approach to arranging and composition that I have always wanted to pursue and craft.
This began when I experimented with two ideas: creating a guitar-driven 3-piece band arrangement of the Ennio Morricone epic theme “For A Few Dollars More” (normally performed by huge orchestras with up to 100 musicians!), and composing an original piece of music specifically intended for use in a burlesque performance for and inspired by Mynx d’Meanor. The immensely enthusiastic reception of both of these tunes in my live shows and European tours was proof that it WORKED!!!
